About

Great Falls Womens Hockey League (GFWHL) is a recreational hockey club, designed to develop new women and men hockey players, improve skills of experienced players, and provide fun, fitness, and camaraderie, for all levels of play. GFWHL welcomes under age 18 skaters on an individual application basis.

Weekly Activities

GRIT-Sunday League Skate at 7pm 

GFWHL plays weekly league games throughout the season at the Great Falls Ice Plex. The first 4 to 6 weeks are dedicated to skill development. GFWHL contracts experienced instructors who provide on ice instruction. These sessions are focused on hockey orientation, skating skills, puck control, player safety and developing good hockey habits. GFWHL welcomes onto the ice each year a diverse group of ability, young, old, experienced to brand new skaters.


TEASER-Thursday Night Teaser at 8:15pm

GFWHL doubled its annual ice in 2010 by welcoming novice men onto the ice to play with the women on Sunday and Thursday nights. This has been a phenomenal oportunity to double our ice time, welcome families onto the ice to play together and enjoy weekly post-game/off-ice camaraderie at the Ice Plex.

Waiver & Registration

REGISTER & PAY IN FULL for both leagues by September 23 for the $450 price!

2024-2025 Season

Season starts October 13th (Sundays) and October 17th (Thursdays)

Pre-season social at the Beacon Ice House is TBD

Full Season registration

Sat & Sun: If you register before September 23rd then both night together are $450

After the September 23rd Deadline:

Sat: $300

Sun: $300

Goalies: If you tend over 75% of the games, your registration will be fully refunded

 

Female players may drop-in to individual sessions for $15.

History of GFWHL

GFWHL was formally organized in 2004, and has over 20 women skaters, ages 18 and up. GFWHL is the most organized adult league on the ice in Great Falls GFWHL is very excited to have embraced numerous generations of family members to get together on the ice each year. We embrace the idea of those that skate together-stay together.

Annual Events

National Laundry Co-Ed Soaker 

A Bi-Annual co-ed hockey festival in Decemeber and March of 40-60 hockey players of all levels. Teams are dedicated and play 3-6 hours of competitive hockey. This is an amazing opportunity for new players to participate in a low-key tournament without the pressure to perform. GFWHL appreciates the support of annual sponsors and provides food and beverages for all participants. This is a super fun event!


Great Falls Brewser—Annual Women's Tournament 

This tournament is hosted by the Great Falls Thunder, selected members of GFWHL. No men are allowed to play on team Thunder during this tournament. This tournament sells out annually to 14 teams from Montana, Canada, Washington, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho. This tournament is an annual favorite by all who participate due to the consistent attention to detail, fair game play and the memories created at the exclusive social event holder, the Beacon Ice House.


Hockey and Hops—Annual Men's Tournament 

This tournament is hosted by the founder of GFWHL, Hatchet, with the assistance of the 4-Horseman and the Hackin Hares male team members. No women are allowed to play on team Hackin Hares during this tournament. This tournament is huge and again an annual favorite from Montana, Canada, Washington, Wyoming and Idaho. Hatchet caps this tournament to 14 teams to ensure all teams have awesome game times and opportunity to participate in the social at the exclusive social event holder, the Beacon Ice House.

Fundraising & Sponsorships

GFWHL depends on sponsorship and fundraising to supplement player registration fees to cover the cost of ice, which is $225 per hour; tournament fees and coaching expenses.
